Content Writer

Job Summary
The Institute for Capacity Building (ICB) seeks a talented writer to join our team, producing a wide range and variety of content for its fast-expanding network of Black colleges and universities, various partners, and other stakeholders as well as the broader public. ICB expects the Content Writer to support ICB’s branded voice and messaging—all to advance ICB’s mission, which is to partner with Black colleges and universities to propel student success, community advancement and the fight for racial-justice equity.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
-Play a strategic role as ICB’s storyteller in advancing ICB’s mission, vision, messaging framework and branded voice, becoming a key amplifier of ICB’s history, programs and plans with institutional partners.
-Prepare persuasive content for ICB-generated materials, including grants, publications, print and digital assets (e.g., copy for proposals, presentations, reports, earned media, website pages and other digital media).
-Help ensure the timely execution of ICB’s editorial calendar with targeted compelling messaging, including updates to website content, talking points, press releases and social media posts.
-Work with ICB leadership, colleagues and consultants and the UNCF communications team to expand and deepen ICB messaging across all possible platforms and connections, creating compelling copy that resonates with diverse audiences with a honed racial-justice, culturally-informed lens.
-Support the tracking of key performance indicators of all ICB strategic communications efforts.
-Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Strategic Communications and Graphic Designer, other ICB colleagues and, as needed, creative agencies, PR firms and photographers, videographers, website designers and engineers.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Work alongside our ICB team to deliver content so that HBCU becomes a household term and exponentially more people value and support the promise of Black higher education. This position will report directly to the Senior Manager, Strategic Communications and work closely with ICB leadership and staff.

Qualifications & Skills
-Superb writing skills, presenting demonstrated impact of original content.
-2+ years of experience in developing compelling copy for a variety of print materials and digital media in a related field, preferably higher education.
-Goal-oriented and passionate about education equity and racial justice.
-High energy, solution-oriented and open-mindedness to arrive at optimal creative strategies, presenting a willingness to learn and ask the right questions to elevate writing and storytelling.
-Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues, consultants and others in advancing strategic communications, plans and campaigns, which entails multiple simultaneous projects.
-Confidence to work effectively with a fast-paced, zero-drama team, staying organized and detail-oriented to deliver a high volume of products and services—efficiently and with quality.
-Experience with WordPress (or other CMS) and leveraging data analytics to further strategies.

Salary Range
$50,000-$60,000
