Senior Manager, Strategic Communications

Job Summary
The Institute for Capacity Building (ICB) seeks a Senior Manager, Strategic Communications to set and coordinate our team’s direction for sharing a range of content to its fast-expanding network of Black colleges and universities, various partners, and other stakeholders as well as the broader public. ICB expects the Senior Manager, Strategic Communications to maintain and deepen the impact of ICB’s branded voice and messaging—all to advance ICB’s mission, which is to partner with Black colleges and universities to propel student success, community advancement and the fight for racial-justice equity.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
-Play a strategic role in advancing ICB’s mission, vision and messaging framework, becoming versed in its history, programs and plans with institutional partners, consultants, funders and other stakeholders.
-Work with ICB leadership, colleagues and consultants and the UNCF communications team to expand and deepen ICB messaging across all possible platforms and connections.
-Lead ICB internal efforts to develop and execute an editorial calendar to ensure consistent compelling messaging throughout the year.
-Oversee the preparation of all content of all types (e.g., copy for proposals, presentations, reports, earned media, website pages and social media).
-Prepare persuasive content for ICB-generated materials, including print and digital assets.
-Develop and track key performance indicators of all ICB strategic communications efforts.
-As needed, work to identify, recruit, coordinate and support creative agencies, PR firms and photographers, videographers, website designers and engineers, and other consultants.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Work alongside our ICB team to identify, develop and execute content so that HBCU becomes a household term and exponentially more people value and support the promise of Black higher education. Provide direction to and manage the efforts of ICB writers, designers and interns. This position will report directly to the Strategy Director.

Qualifications & Skills
-5+ years of experience in developing content for a nonprofit in a related field, preferably higher education.
-Demonstrated impact of editorial work, written content and messaging priorities.
-Proven ability to manage and energize colleagues, consultants and others in advancing strategic communications, plans and campaigns, which entails multiple simultaneous projects.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-Skilled in WordPress (or other CMS), earned media, social media and data analytics.
-Experience with supporting the work of writers and designers.
-Goal-oriented and passionate about education equity and racial justice.
-Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
-High energy, solution-oriented and open-mindedness to arrive at optimal creative strategies.
-Bachelor’s degree preferred.
