Capturing UNITE 2025 Through Live Illustration

At UNITE 2025, storytelling took on a new form.

Throughout the summit, graphic notetaker and context artist Brandon Black brought the experience to life in real time. Brandon, a Cincinnati-based illustrator and founder of Drawnversation, observed sessions across the week and transformed dialogue, themes, and moments into powerful visual narratives.

From the Gala and Plenary Sessions to the Awards Ceremony, his illustrations reflected the energy and imagination of our HBCU ecosystem. As leaders, practitioners, and students explored our five pillars:

  • Institutional Excellence
  • Student Success
  • Research and Innovation
  • Economic Mobility
  • Systems Change

Brandon’s work captured the spirit of collaboration and vision that defined UNITE 2025.

These illustrations do more than document the summit. They translate ideas into shared meaning. They make complex conversations visible. And they help carry forward the belief that transformation begins with imagination and community.

We are grateful for Brandon’s partnership and the thoughtful artistry he brought to this year’s convening.
