In February 1968, the City University of New York announced plans for the creation of an “experimental” community-based college that would be in central Brooklyn. Later named Medgar Evers College, the school was to be the first CUNY campus located in, and focused on, an underserved city neighborhood. It was officially established in 1970 through cooperation between educators and community leaders in central Brooklyn. It is named after Medgar Wiley Evers, an African American civil rights leader who was assassinated on June 12, 1963.

Medgar Evers’ pathway to transformative culture has centered on providing opportunities for students to gain access to a broad range of employers, employment information and up-skilling opportunities. The institution has developed a data analytics course where students will acquire data analytics skills and problem-solving techniques by completing five essential courses. While in these courses, students will meet with at least five career professionals from relevant industries over the program period and will complete at least two skills-building certificate courses over the span of the program.
