Dr. Ernest C. McNealey President, Allen University

Founded in 1870 by the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, Allen University is a private, historically Black university (HBCU) in Columbia, South Carolina. With a mission rooted in providing access to education and fostering leadership, Allen has played a crucial role in shaping African American scholars, professionals, and community leaders for over 150 years.

Allen University offers undergraduate degree programs in disciplines such as business, humanities, social sciences, religion, and STEM fields. The university is known for its emphasis on academic excellence, social justice, and civic engagement, continuing its long-standing tradition of preparing students for impactful careers and graduate studies.

Historically, Allen was among the few HBCUs in the South to establish a law department in the early 20th century, demonstrating its early commitment to professional education. Today, the university remains a center for innovation and leadership development, dedicated to empowering students to drive positive change in their communities and beyond.
