Miles College is a historically Black college founded in 1898 in Fairfield, Alabama, six miles west of Birmingham, Alabama. Miles is a private liberal arts institution of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church (CME Church). It was chartered as Miles Memorial College in honor of Bishop William H. Miles. In 1941, it officially changed its name to Miles College, home of the Golden Bears, and is a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).
Facilitated through the Institute for Capacity Building, Miles College is now a UNCF cohort member in the HBCU Transformation Project, a first-of-its-kind effort to improve student enrollment, graduate success, and institutional effectiveness rates at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
